A farmer in our team lived this enough times that he could not keep quiet. He farms himself. He saw neighbours load the truck with a heavy heart. He knows what it costs when you cannot wait one more day for a better mandi. మా బృందంలోని ఒక రైతు ఇలా ఎన్నోసార్లు చూశాడు — మౌనంగా ఉండలేకపోయాడు. తాను కూడా పండిస్తాడు. పొరుగువాళ్లు గుండె బరువుగా ట్రక్ ఎక్కించడం చూశాడు. మరో రోజు మండీ కోసం ఆగలేకపోతే ఎంత నష్టమో తెలుసు.
So he went to the potters with one question. Can we make a clay box that sits in the shade, takes water, and gives the crop a few more days? That work became Sisira. We call the cooler Nature’s Fridge. కాబట్టి కుమ్మరుల దగ్గరికి ఒక ప్రశ్నతో వెళ్లాడు. నీడలో ఉంచి, నీళ్లు పోస్తే, పంటకు కొన్ని రోజులు ఇచ్చే మట్టి పెట్టె చేయవచ్చా? ఆ పనే సిసిరైంది. కూలర్ని నేచర్స్ ఫ్రిడ్జ్ అంటాం.
We are not calm about this. Every season we still see the same waste — firm tomato in the morning, soft and cheap by evening. That is why we keep making these boxes by hand, farm after farm, in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. దీని విషయంలో మేము నిశ్శబ్దంగా లేం. ప్రతి సీజన్లో అదే నష్టం కనిపిస్తుంది — పొద్దున గట్టి టమాటా, సాయంత్రానికి మెత్తగా, చవకగా. అందుకే ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్, తెలంగాణలో పొలం పొలం చేతితో ఈ పెట్టెలు చేస్తూనే ఉన్నాం.
What the box does is plain. You pour water. No current. The clay keeps the inside cooler. The pick that would spoil in a day or two outside can last longer — often up to about a week when the clay stays wet and the box stays in shade. Then you can wait. You can refuse a bad rate. You sell when you are ready. పెట్టె చేసేది సూటిగా ఉంది. నీళ్లు పోయండి. కరెంటు లేదు. మట్టి లోపల చల్లగా ఉంచుతుంది. బయట ఒకటి రెండు రోజుల్లో పాడయ్యే పంట ఎక్కువ రోజులు నిలుస్తుంది — మట్టి తడిగా, పెట్టె నీడలో ఉంటే సుమారు వారం వరకు కూడా. అప్పుడు ఆగొచ్చు. చెడ్డ రేటు తిరస్కరించొచ్చు. మీరు సిద్ధమైనప్పుడు అమ్మొచ్చు.
We cannot fix the mandi. We can give you days so the mandi does not own your whole harvest. మండీని మేము సరిచేయలేం. మండీ మీ పూర్తి కోతను ఆడించకుండా, ఆగే రోజులు ఇవ్వగలం.
A farmer started it. Potters still fire every piece. ఒక రైతు మొదలుపెట్టాడు. ఇప్పటికీ కుమ్మరులే ప్రతి పెట్టె కాలుస్తారు.
The first coolers were for our own tomato and vegetable harvests — the heat of Andhra and Telangana, crates stacked where there is little wind. మొదటి కూలర్లు మా టమాటా, కూరగాయల కోతల కోసమే — ఆంధ్ర, తెలంగాణ ఎండ, గాలి తక్కువ ఉన్న చోట పేర్చిన క్రేట్లు.
When water darkens the clay, neighbours walk over and ask. That is how most people find us. We answer WhatsApp in Telugu or English. We would rather you see the box working at a farm than buy from a picture. మట్టి మీద నీళ్లు నల్లగా తడిస్తే పొరుగువారు వచ్చి అడుగుతారు. చాలామంది అలానే మా దగ్గరికి వస్తారు. వాట్సాప్లో తెలుగు లేదా ఇంగ్లీష్లో సమాధానం ఇస్తాం. పిక్చర్ చూసి కొనడం కంటే పొలంలో పెట్టె పనిచేస్తుండగా చూడటమే మాకు ఇష్టం.
